Bury St Edmunds: Theatre Royal

The Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds was built in 1819; this beautifully restored Regency theatre is Grade 1 listed, and is the only theatre to be owned by the National Trust.

It’s the last working Regency playhouse in the country, and I’ve been to countless panto’s there – until eventually my daughter decided she was too old and I no longer had an excuse!

A brilliant, year-round programme of drama, music, dance and light entertainment, featuring many of the country’s leading companies and performers. They have built a fabulous reputation for their 3 in-house productions each year, including the ever popular annual pantomime that I mentioned.

Pair a visit to the theatre with a meal at one of Bury St Edmunds award-winning restaurants for the perfect evening out!
