One of the most beautiful, historic villages in England, let alone Suffolk. Jam-packed with quirky, wonky timber-framed buildings, antique shops, craft shops, art galleries, tea rooms and pubs, it’s a really popular tourist destination for all visitors to Suffolk and still a regular for us locals too!

Lavenham is rich in things to visit and see, so make sure you get hold of their Complimentary Visitors Map & Guide (available in many places throughout the village), it has a beautifully illustrated map plus a directory of all that is on offer in the village. This really helps maximise your time and experience, by exploring all of the streets and hidden gems in Lavenham!

Lavenham has a fascinating story, with over 320 buildings of historic interest, its past is tightly intertwined with the boom and bust of the wool and cloth trade. You can learn more about this at the independent volunteer run Little Hall museum, and also through a visit to the stunning Guildhall which is run by the National Trust.

For all of the Harry Potter fans out there, some of the streets and buildings in Lavenham may look familiar! The Guildhall, Da Vere house, and many of the streets were used for the scenes in Godric’s Hollow, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Even if you are not a Harry Potter fanatic, these beautiful timber framed buildings are so impressive its difficult not to stop, admire, and take some photos!

There are so many cafes, pubs, and restaurants throughout the village where you can eat delicious food and drink, including Munnings Tea Room, Number 10 Wine Bar & Kitchen, and The Angel; with such an amazing selection it can be difficult to choose where to go! Additionally, there are many fantastic independent shops and galleries along the high street, like Lavenham Contemporary; Perfect for finding unique gifts, or a little treat for yourself as a souvenir of your visit to this enchanting village. After a satisfying wander around the centre of Lavenham, the short walk to the St Peter & St Paul’s church is the icing on the cake, so happily situated with wonderfully manicured gardens and impressive architecture.

Lavenham is such a beautifully unique and quirky village, it is the perfect place to spend the day while you are in Suffolk. With so much history to absorb and so much to see, it is easy to spend a whole day getting lost while discovering all of the secret places in this special village.
