An impressive 16th century stately home in the village of Long Melford, Suffolk. Historically it’s the ancestral seat of the Parker Baronets. All I know is, we go there a lot and it’s a huge hit with our guests here at Woodfarm!
Melford Hall is the family home of the Hyde Parker family. Beatrix Potter was a cousin of the family and was a frequent visitor to the hall from the 1890s onwards. One wing of the hall was gutted by fire in February 1942 but rebuilt after World War II, retaining the external Tudor brickwork with 1950s interior design. The hall was first opened to the public in 1955 by Ulla, Lady Hyde Parker, and in 1960 it passed into the care of the National Trust. The hall is also the home of the annual Leestock Music Festival which is a brilliant weekend of musical talent, family fun, and delicious food!
Onsite there is a lovely cafe serving light lunches, cakes, scones, teas and coffees. These can be enjoyed both inside or, on a warm summer day, out on the croquet lawn.
Melford hall is open between April and October, but times may vary so it is always best to check the National Trust website before your visit. You can also find out more information there about the rich history of the hall.
