The 14 acre Abbey Gardens are situated on the site of the former Benedicte Abbey; once one of the wealthiest and most powerful monasteries in England. The abbey was home to the shrine of St Edmund which became a place of pilgrimage, visited by people from all over England, including royalty!
These stunning gardens are bedded out each year for the summer and autumn displays, and many events take place here including the annual Bury St Edmunds festival.
The gardens have many areas to explore including a herb garden, rose garden, sensory garden, the Garden of Reflection, a water garden, plus walks along the River Lark. There is also an aviary, bowling green, putting green, crazy golf, wildlife feeding area, plus The Garden Cafe kiosk to stop in for a drink and bite to eat!
Whether you are interested in walking, cycling, history, or simply enjoying a picnic, the peaceful Abbey Gardens are not to be missed!
Please note: Dogs on leads are welcome. Public toilets are available at the site.
